Softball Falls to CCBC Catonsville, 1-6, 6-7 (8)

CATONSVILLE, MD--The Richard Bland College of William & Mary softball team fell short in both of their away games on Sunday afternoon. The Statesmen fell to CCBC Catonsville 1-6 in the first game and 6-7 in the second game.

The Statesmen fall to 9-14 on the season, while CCBC Catonsville improves to 12-4. RBC will next play at home on Wednesday, March 20 at 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm against Virginia State University.

GAME ONE

The Statesmen fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 6-1 defeat. Catonsville was able to take the lead in the second inning. Catonsville scored three of their runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore Megan Vincent took the defeat for RBC. She allowed nine hits and six runs while striking out ten and walking one. Sophomore Kayla Hand went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Statesmen in hits.

GAME TWO

RBC fell behind by four runs in the fifth inning but was able to fight back and tie the game. The Statesmen were able to tie the game in the sixth inning when Hand scored two runs off a single. The offensive firepower for RBC in the sixth inning was led by freshman Madison Kelly, sophomore Jez Chitty, and Hand who were all able to drive in RBIs. Sophomore Joana Holland took the defeat for the Statesmen. She allowed six runs on eight hits while striking out nine. The Statesmen totaled eight hits in the game. Sophomore Mary Simms, Hand, and sophomore Katie Haney all had multiple hits. Haney, Hand, and Simms each managed two hits to lead the team. With the game tied at 4-4, international tiebreaker was put into play. Richard Bland was able to score one in the top of the eighth inning, but Catonsville's Pullin was able to single on a 1-2 count scoring two runs to win the game.
