Softball Drops Two At Home Against USC Union, 7-9, 8-9

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA--The Richard Bland College of William & Mary softball team dropped both games to visiting USC Union 7-9 & 8-9 on Saturday evening.

The Statesmen are now 11-17 on the season, while USC Union improves to 13-8. RBC will next play at home on Saturday, April 6 at 1 pm and 3 pm against USC Sumter.

GAME ONE

Richard Bland College lost the lead late in a 7-9 defeat to USC Union. The game was tied at seven with USC batting in the top of the fifth. Union's Clinton doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs. Sophomore Megan Vincent led things off in the pitcher's circle for the Statesmen. She lasted seven innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs while striking out eight. The Statesmen were able to smack two home runs in the game. Sophomore Taylor Bilyard and sophomore Allison Jarrett both hit one in the third inning. RBC was able to collect 11 hits throughout the game. Sophomore Katie Haney, sophomore Skyler Bagnall, and freshman Erin Doyle each racked up multiple hits. Haney led the team with three hits in four at-bats.

GAME TWO

Despite a 5-run deficit in the third inning, RBC almost came all the way back in the final innings of the game for a score of 8-9. The Statesmen fell behind early in the defeat but were able to notch three runs in the sixth inning. The runs were scored by Haney when she hit a home run. Freshman Kiara Toler was in the pitcher's circle for RBC. She allowed 12 hits and nine runs over four and a third innings, striking out one. Doyle led the team in hits, earning three hits in four at-bats.
