Women's Soccer Preps for Debut Season

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The inaugural Richard Bland College of William & Mary women's soccer team, which is set to debut this Saturday at home on Willcox Field against Southwest Virginia Community College, will have a distinct local roster.

The roster features all Virginia players except one, with two players hailing from North Chesterfield, two from Midlothian, and one each from Chester, Colonial Heights, Henrico, and Prince George.

The first-year team will play 11 matches and compete in the Region X Conference. The Statesmen will be coached by Damien Westfield, who also leads the men's soccer team at RBC, He will be assisted by Meghan Mauzy.

"It's a brand-new team for the College and we are excited to begin the season," says Westfield. "Regardless of whether it's our first year or tenth year, the team is going to be organized, disciplined and compete to the best of its ability every game. We want to be competitive in the conference."

The 2019 roster features: Marisela Barron (North Chesterfield/Meadowbrook), Sydney Bartlett (Prince George/Prince George), Jayden Bognas (Henrico/Varina), Paige Brannon (DeFuniak Springs, FL/Walton), Julie De La Pena (North Chesterfield/L.C. Byrd), Jenaka Derksen (Chester/Meadowbrook), Alaina Jencik (Midlothian/Clover Hill), Aisja Jones, Julia Munoz-Delgado Molidero (Orange/Orange County), Abegail Richardson (Springfield/Lake Braddock), Alexia Spencer (Midlothian/Homeschool), Haley Tereschenko (Colonial Heights/Colonial Heights), Kelsey Watts (Carson/Prince George).

Following the program opener on Aug. 24, the Statesmen will remain home for an Aug. 27 contest against Patrick Henry at 2 pm and then play the next three games on the road before returning home to host CCBC Essex on Sept. 15.
