Women's Soccer Makes History

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William & Mary Women's Soccer team made history Saturday, winning 12-0 over Southwest Virginia Community College, in their first ever game in program history.

With their debut win, the Statesmen move to 1-0 and are scheduled to host Patrick Henry Community College home at Willcox Field on Tuesday, August 27th, at 2 pm.

Alexia Spencer took the lead 17 minutes into the game with the team's first goal of the season.  The Statesmen followed it up with three more goals from Abegail Richardson and Alexia Spencer. Spencer walked in the tenth goal twenty minutes into the game. The Statesmen controlled the pitch as an impressive goal by Spencer, assisted by Richardson, less than a minute into the second half summed up the game so far.  Richardson scored the twelfth goal with twelve minutes remaining to complete the game's final score of 12-0.

With spirits high after the team's first win ever, Head Coach Damien Westfield said "Meghan [Mauzy] and I were very very pleased. The girls showed pride and passion for the game, as they wanted to make Richard Bland College proud. This was the first game in RBC history for the girls to win." Abegail Richardson said "It was great to play for the first time, our team worked great together, and we are excited to win our first game.  Happy to make RBC proud."

Alexia Spencer finished the match with seven goals and Abegail Richardson added five goals of her own for the Statesmen.
