Callie Humphrey Scores Winning Goal in Statesmen Come Back

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William & Mary women's soccer team made an impressive comeback on Thursday, September 19, winning 3-2 over Wake Technical Community College.

With their comeback, the Statesmen move to 3-4 and are scheduled to go up against USC Salkehatchie in Allendale, South Carolina on Saturday, September 21, at 12 p.m.

Minutes into the first half, the Statesmen successfully prevented a charge for the goal by Wake Technical, followed by yet another successful defense in the last minutes. Goalkeeper Paige Brannon took on a half-dozen saves, anchoring the Statesmen in the game. While the Statesmen fell short on goals in the first half, they made a staggering come back in the second half.

Alexia Spencer kicked it off with the Statesmen's first goal minutes into the second half. This energy was met by Julia Munzo-Delgado Molinero, with her first goal of the season and the second goal of the game for the Statesmen. Halfway through the second half, Brannon prevented yet another half-dozen goals, furnishing two impressive saves. After a fatiguing back-and-forth on the field, with both sides fighting for the win, Callie Humphrey came in for the winning goal with two minutes left on the clock.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Damien Westfield said, "I couldn't be more proud of the energy and teamwork shown on the field today." Meghan Mauzy, assistant women's soccer coach, said, "We are looking forward to our next game."

Julia Munzo-Delgado Molinero and Callie Humphrey scored one goal each. Alexia Spencer had one assist and scored one goal.
