Volleyball Splits Matches Against Monroe, No. Virginia C.C.

SPRINGFIELD, VA -- Monroe Community College ended the Richard Bland College of William & Mary win streak at 10 consecutive victories, but it didn't take the Statesmen long to start a new streak in tri-match action on Saturday at Northern Virginia Virginia Community College.

The Statesmen fell in their first match 3-0 (18-25, 16-25, 21-25) against Monroe. In the second match, RBC swept host Northern Virginia Community College 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-20). With the split, the Statesmen sit at 15-5 on the season and will host Louisburg College on Monday night at Statesman Hall at 6 pm.

Against Monroe College, Clara Smith led the way with 11 kills and 2 blocks. Lauryn Basl dished out 22 assists, while Cortney Bowen added 5 kills and 5 blocks.

Harper Smith posted 13 kills, 3 aces, and 3 blocks in the victory over NOVA. Jordan Walter added 36 assists and 6 digs, and Jada Evans contributed 20 digs.

"Although we would have liked to come out 2-0 today I am happy with how we bounced back after our first match," said head coach Scott Newton. "There was tough competition today which will help us prepare as we move into the playoffs."
