Women's Volleyball Captures Region X Championship

SPARTANBURG, SC--The Richard Bland College of Willam & Mary women's volleyball team defeated Spartanburg Methodist 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 22-25,26-24) this afternoon for the Region X Championship. 

Head Coach Scott Newton was named Coach of the Year and sophomore Harper Smith was named Player of the Year. Freshman Clara Smith, sophomore Cortney Bowen, and Harper Smith received all region. With this victory, the Statesmen advance to Bradenton, Florida to compete in the Region 8 Championships, one of 14 district championships the NJCAA hosts. The two finalists from that event qualify for the NJCAA Division I National Championships on November 15-17 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Statesmen next play on Friday, November 2 with the time and opponent to be determined. 

The Statesmen were led by Harper Smith, Clara Smith, and Lauryn Basl. Harper Smith had 18 kills and 23 digs, Clara Smith had 11 kills, and Lauryn Basl had 29 assist and 3 aces.
