Home Sweet Home for Women's Volleyball

By Bryant Marks
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- On Tuesday, the Richard Bland College of William & Mary women's volleyball team played its first game at home in 8 games and were victorious over the opposing Bryant & Stratton Bobcats (25-13, 25-18, 25-13).

With this win, the team now moves to 14-11 for the 2019 season.  As this is the last week of regular season play for the Statesmen, the conference tournament is on their minds.  Before that can be played, though, one last test remains for the team. Undefeated and the #6 ranked team in the country in NJCAA DII, Catawba Valley Community College, comes into Statesmen Hall to challenge RBC on Friday, October 18, at 6 pm.

During the match for the Statesmen, the team looked energized to be playing at home again.  They limited their opponents to scoring 18 points or less in each set, while the Statesmen offense rolled.  Good play came from everyone who entered the match today as the team greatly limited their errors committed versus their number of points scored.  Key plays from the team came from Ayanna Swan (15 kills, 8 digs, & 3 blocks), Emma Lazerson (13 kills, 4 digs, & 3 aces), and Anna Ney (32 assists & 2 aces).  Swan and Lazerson are both in the top six players in NJCAA Region X for kills this season, while Ney leads all of Region X in assists.
