BARNES BAT A BOOST FOR STATESMEN SOFTBALL

PETERSBURG, Va., (Mar. 14, 2016) -- As the Richard Bland College softball season rounds the corner into the second half of its schedule, the bat of sophomore Hannah Barnes has become one reason why the Statesmen are on the verge of racking up Region X Conference victories.

Barnes is coming off a four-game stretch against Southeastern C.C.-Whiteville and Louisburg College in which she went 7-for-14, a nifty .500 average. In those four games, she had three doubles, a triple, two RBI and scored five runs. From the leadoff position she opened up the Southeastern game with a triple and in the second game against Division I powerhouse Louisburg College, went 3-for-4.

Her efforts at the plate and in her utility role that has her roaming the outfield grass in right field and working the infield dirt when needed, has earned her Student-Athlete of the Week honors.

Barnes currently leads the Statesmen in batting average (.379), hits (25), doubles (5), on base percentage (.446) and slugging percentage (.485).

Barnes is a 2014 graduate of Homeschool in Emporia, VA., where she played softball and was a member of the National Honors Society.

The Statesmen, 7-13, 4-2 Region X, return to action at home on Saturday, Mar. 19 hosting Herkimer Community College at 1 p.m.
