BUFFINGTON A DOUBLE THREAT ON FIELD

PETERSBURG, Va., (Feb. 26, 2016) – The pitching and hitting of freshman Shannon Buffington can take the Richard Bland College softball season to great places this season.

Her efforts in two Statesmen victories have earned her Student Athlete of the Week honors.

Behind Buffington’s work on the mound and plate, the Statesmen earned the season’s first wins of the season, 4-3 and 11-0 over Southeastern Community-Whiteville. She went eight strong innings in picking up her first win of the season. She scattered seven hits and struck out five in the victory.

In the nightcap 11-0 victory, Buffington got the RBC offense started with three RBI in her only plate appearance.

Buffington is a 2015 graduate of Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, VA., where she earned All-Conference honors two years.

The Statesmen will be back in action hosting Pitt C.C. in their home opener on March 4 at 5 p.m.
