ELLIS FINISHES CAREER ON HIGH NOTE

PETERSBURG, Va., (May 9, 2016) – Behind the gutsy and gritty play of sophomore Kimberly Ellis, the Richard Bland College softball team made a gallant effort towards a Region X Conference Tournament title. While the Statesmen fell just shy of the mark, Ellis closed out her career with a phenomenal performance in RBC’s four games.

Ellis went 9-for-16 (.562) in four games against Pasco-Hernando, Southeastern CC.-Whiteville, Patrick Henry and Florence-Darlington. That marks included going 8-for-13 in a long Saturday of action, one that saw the Statesmen play three games.

For her efforts, Ellis is RBC’s Student Athlete of the Week.

In addition to her lofty batting average, Ellis scored six runs and knocked in six RBI. She blasted a big triple in the fifth inning of the Florence-Darlington game to help Richard Bland toward an upset of the No. 1 seed that fell just short, 6-4. Her offensive firepower raised Ellis’ batting average to .357 and .342 batting average for her career.

Ellis banged out 42 hits this year, third best of the team. She had 82 hits in her career.

Ellis is a 2014 graduate from Llyod C. Bird in Chesterfield, Va., where she earned one varsity letter. She was an Second-Team All-Conference selection and was award the team Sportsmanship award.
