FINNIE HEADED TO NJCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

PETERSBURG, VA., (Dec. 7, 2015) -- Sophomore track long jumper Marcus Finnie is headed to the NJCAA Indoor Championships in March.

At the the Christopher Newport Holiday Open on Saturday, Finnie won the men's long jump with a personal indoor best of 6.99 meters (22'11 1/4"), which met the qualifying standards for him to compete against the nation's elite in March. Marcus jumped qualified him the NJCAA Indoor Championship in March at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 

Finnie's performance has earned him RBC Student-Athlete of the Week honors.

This is the second NJCAA qualification for Finnie, who had a successful outdoor season as a freshman and competed in the 2015 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Hutchinson, Kansas.
 

Finnie is a 2013 graduate of James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, where he competed in football, track and basketball. He was the Most Valuable Player on both the track and basketball teams and a Battlefield Conference selection in all three sports.
