WOOTEN COMES UP BIG FOR STATESMEN

PETERSBURG, VA., (Dec. 14, 2015) -- The Richard Bland College men's basketball team came into this past weekend of Region X contests against Guilford Tech and Wake Tech in dire need of two wins to build momentum heading into next semester.

Freshman Jaquan Wooten was one very big reason why the Statesmen won both and head into a Dec. 16 home game against CCBC Catonsville with a 7-6, 3-2 record. For his efforts he is the RBC Student Athlete of the Week, the second time this season he has earned such honors.

Wooten tallied 19 points with 13 rebounds in a 92-89 victory over Wake on Sunday afternoon. In the weekend games he averaged 12.5 ppg, 10 rpg and 3.5 bpg. He shot an astounding 73 percent from the field. 

Wooten is a 2015 graduate of South Lenoir High School in Deep Run, NC., where he earned four varsity letters and was selected to play in the North Carolina vs. South Carolina All-Star game as a senior. As a senior he avearged 16.6 ppg. During his scholastic career he earned ECC All-Conference honors three years.

The Statesmen will close out the first semester hosting CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 16 at 6 p.m.
