The Statesmen Highlight Reel : Macho Santiago

Richard Bland College Baseball team is entering the final weeks of the 2024 season. With three more conference series to play, the Statesmen currently sit at 16-16 overall, and 11-13 in conference play. The Statesmen most recently took a 2-1 series over the Rams of Southeastern Community College-Whiteville. The Statesmen have won at least one game over Pitt Community College, Lenoir Community College, Fayetteville Technical Community College, Montgomery College (MD), Anne Arundel Community College, and Camp Community College this season. A strong driving force of this program is redshirt freshman infielder, Macho Santiago from Tuckahoe, Virginia.

 

Santiago has played in all 32 games and leads the team in batting average with .387. Santiago has gone 43-111 at the plate including 28 singles, five doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 20 walks, and 39 rbi. Santiago has touched 77 total bags, including 15 stolen bases, and holds a .521 on base percentage. He has 40 putouts in the field and 30 assists for a .875 fielding percentage.

 

Santiago’s impact can be felt in every aspect of the game. He will be looked at to continue leading and producing for the third year baseball program, for the remainder of the season.
