Gorka Delgado - All American Selection

Gorka Delgado - All American Selection

By Bryant Marks

At the conclusion of the 2019 men's soccer season, Richard Bland College forward Gorka Delgado was selected as an NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Third Team All-American.

This now makes it two players in the last two years that have been selected to the All-American team for Richard Bland and Coach Damien Westfield.

On the season, Delgado scored a team-high and region-high 52 points with 24 goals and 4 assists.  He converted almost half (.490) of his shots into goals and scored an astounding 8 game-winning goals for the Statesmen men's soccer team.  Delgado scored 6 goals in his first game of the season against Southwest Virginia, 4 goals against Northern Virginia, and 3 goals against conference rival, Spartanburg Methodist.  The most bittersweet thing about his season though is that Delgado did all of these amazing feats while missing the last 6 games for the Statesmen as he was forced out with an injury.  At the time of his injury, he was leading all of NJCAA Division I in goals scored.  If not for missing time from the field, Delgado would have made a strong case for First Team All-American.  For Delgado's career with Richard Bland, he ranks first all-time in goals scored with 31 and first all-time for goals scored in a single season with 24.  Delgado has given RBC two great seasons at the forward position and he will greatly be missed as he moves on with his athletic and academic career.
