RBC Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary of 1st NJCAA National Championship Team
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – On Saturday January 25th, the Richard Bland College Athletics Department honored the 2015 Men's Basketball NJCAA National Championship Team, which was the first in program and school history. The team was recognized at halftime of the home men's basketball game against Gaston College.
In 2015, Head Coach and Athletics Director, Chuck Moore led the Statesmen men's basketball program to an impressive 32-4 record, engineering a historic season for the Richard Bland College men's basketball program. Under Moore's leadership, the Statesmen dominated at the regional and national levels, securing the Region 10 Tournament Championship prior to continuing on and winning the NJCAA Division II National Championship, in a 64-53 victory over John Wood Community College.
The 2014-15 team included the following:
De'Andre Kellam, Reginald Moses, Jhamir White, Brian Adkins, Pedro Berrios, Joshua Marshall, LeQuan Thomas, Troy Gibson, Melvin Gregory, Evan Bates, Isreal Stith, Tavon Mealy, Avery Ugba, and Trayvonte Brown.
During the 2014-15 season, the team garnered three All-Region 10 Team selections in Tavon Mealy (1st), Avery Ugba (2nd), and Reginald Moses (2nd). Mealy was also named All-Region 10 Player of the Year, along with being recognized as a member of the NJCAA Division II All-America 1st Team and All-Tournament Team. Avery Ugba was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Head Coach, Chuck Moore also earned many prestigious accolades including: NJCAA Division II District 6 Coach of the Year, NABC Junior College Coach of the Year, NJCAA Division II Coach of the Year, and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division Coach of the Year.
Moore's tenure at Richard Bland concluded with an impressive 126 wins and 42 losses, coaching record. During his time at Richard Bland, he coached 13 total All-Region 10 players, one Region 10 Player of the Year, two NJCAA Division II All-Americans, and four NJCAA All-Tournament Team members.
After his time at Richard Bland College, Moore moved on to Tallahassee State College to become the Director of Athletics.
