Statesmen Show Strong Offense in Series Sweep Over Bulldogs

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 10-2 overall, 5-1 in conference play after hosting Pitt Community College in a conference series over the weekend.  

 

In game one, Maddaux Childress drove in five runs on two hits to lead Richard Bland past Pitt Community College 11-5 on Saturday. Pitt opened the scoring in the top of the first on two singles. Ashur Caraher homered to center field, which helped Richard Bland tie the game at two in the bottom of the third. Childress hit a home run to left field in the seventh inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the fourth inning, scoring two. Richard Bland scored seven runs in the seventh inning on the way to victory. Ashur Caraher drew a walk, scoring one run, Samuel Young drew a walk, scoring one run, Eric Fila singled, scoring two runs, and Childress homered scoring three. Richard Bland showed patience at the plate, piling up nine walks in the game. Landon Scott and Fila led the team with two walks each, Macho Santiago stole three bases, and the Statesmen turned on double play in the game. Matthew Boyd led things off on the bump for Richard Bland. He allowed six hits and four runs over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Charlie Rohr appeared in relief for Richard Bland.

 

In game two, the bats were blistered as Richard Bland defeated the Bulldogs 12-10. Richard Bland collected 12 hits, while Pitt had nine. Richard Bland tied the game up at five in the bottom if the third thanks to two singles. The Statesmen flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 10-7 lead, with help from a Macho Santiago grand slam to right field. Despite falling down by five runs in the sixth inning, Pitt tried to fight back scoring three runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as the Statesmen came out victorious. Ashur Caraher, Michael Duncan, and Eric Fila each collected two hits for the Statesmen. Jackson Hulcher began the game for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher surrendered six hits and seven runs over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking four. Ryan Martin, Dylan Jones, and Christopher Wimmer each came on in relief for the Statesmen and shutdown the Bulldogs.

 

In game three, Richard Bland won big over Pitt, 12-4 on Sunday. Richard Bland jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fifth when an error score one run, Jaden Groome drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. Richard Bland added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh, when Jordan Ramsey doubled, scoring three runs, to give the Statesmen a 7-4 lead. The Statesmen scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Landon Scott doubled, scoring three, an error scored one, and Fila singled scoring one.Jordan Ramsey led the team with two hits in four at bats. Scott and Ramsey each drove in three runs for Richard Bland. Darren Osborne started on the mound for Richard Bland, The righty allowed two hits and three runs over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Connor Sakamoto pitched on inning of shutout ball in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out none and walking two.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Saturday, March 2nd and Sunday, March 3rd for their three-game conference series. Games one and two will take place on Saturday beginning at 12pm, and game three is set for Sunday at 12pm.
