Baseball Takes Two From Lancers

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 13-11 overall, 8-8 in conference play after hosting Lenoir Community College in a doubleheader Friday, traveling to Lenoir for game three Saturday.

 

In game one against the Lancers, Richard Bland had trouble keeping up with Lenoir in a 5-13 loss. Lenoir Community College got on the board in the first inning on a single, scoring one run. Samuel Young hit a sacrifice fly, which helped Richard Bland tie the game at one in the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the third, Richard Bland broke up the tie when Macho Santiago singled, scoring one run. Then a sacrifice fly by Michael Duncan followed to extend the lead, 3-1. Lenoir flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth. Richard Bland amassed nine hits in the game. Jordan Ramsey, Carter Jones, and Santiago each collected two hits in the game. Santiago went 2-for-5 at the plate, leading the team with two runs batted in. Jaden Groom stole two bases for the Statesmen. Richard Bland also turned three double plays. Andrew Bottari began the game for Richard Bland. The starter surrendered five hits and six runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking two.

 

In game two against the Lancers, both teams were strong on the mound, but the Statesmen prevailed in a 3-2 win. Charlie Rohr started the game for Richard Bland and recorded 18 outs. A single by the Lancers put Lenoir on the board first, in the top of the third inning. Samuel Young walked, which helped Richard Bland tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Richard Bland went back into the lead after Lenoir Community College committed an error, and Jordan Ramsey singled, each scoring one run. Ramsey led Richard Bland with one run batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Reece Hamilton, Macho Santiago, Michael Duncan, Ramsey, and Eric Fila each collected one hit for Richard Bland. Rohr stepped on the hill first for Richard Bland. He gave up five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking one. Jackson Hulcher pitched one inning of scoreless ball for the Statesmen in relief. He gave up one hit, striking out two and walking none.

 

In game three against the Lancers, Richard Bland was victorious in a 6-2 win. Richard Bland got on the board in the first inning after Carter Jones drew a walk, scoring one run. Richard Bland scored two runs in the top of the seventh on a home run to left field by Eric Fila. Richard Bland accumulated 11 hits in the game. Fila drove the middle of the lineup, leading Richard Bland with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Michael Duncan went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Statesmen in hits. Jones and Macho Santiago each collected multiple hits in the win. Matthew Boyd began the game for the Statesmen. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Jackson Hulcher threw two and one-third innings of no-run ball for Richard Bland in relief. The right-handed pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out three and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Tuesday, April 2nd for a single, nine-inning game at 3pm.
