Baseball Battles with Bulldogs

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 14-14 overall, 9-11 in conference play after traveling to Pitt Community College Saturday and Sunday for the three-game series with the Bulldogs.

 

In game one, Richard Bland fell to the Bulldogs, 0-4. Pitt got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning after a double, triple, and line out, each scoring one run. Carter Jones and Macho Santiago each collected one hit for Richard Bland. The Statesmen turned two double plays in the game. Reece Hamilton stepped on the hill first for Richard Bland. The righty allowed six hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

 

In game two, Richard Bland scored seven runs in the sixth inning, which helped them defeat Pitt Community College, 12-3, in the nightcap. Arthur Garnett singled, scoring two runs, Bradan Henderson singled, scoring three runs, and Macho Santiago homered to right field, scoring two runs. Richard Bland opened the scoring in the top of the third thanks to two singles. Samuel Young singled, scoring two runs. Young and Garnett were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Richard Bland. Young, Garnett, and Henderson each drove in three runs for the Statesmen. Richard Bland had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 11 walks in the game. Charlie Rohr started on the bump for Richard Bland. He gave up four hits and three runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one. Matthew Caldwell tossed one inning of scoreless ball for Richard Bland in relief. Caldwell gave up one hit, striking out one and walking none.

 

In game three, Richard Bland lost to the Bulldogs, 2-7. Pitt opened the scoring in the second inning on a double, scoring one run. Eric Fila and Macho Santiago were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Richard Bland. Reece Hamilton, Fila, Jaden Groome, Santiago, and Michael Duncan each collected one hit for the Statesmen. Groome stole two bases out of five for Richard Bland. Andrew Bottari started the game for Richard Bland. The starter allowed two hits and one run over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Matthew Boyd pitched five innings in relief for the Statesmen. The reliever gave up eight hits and five runs while striking out five and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 10th in a single game. First pitch is set for 3pm.
