Statesmen Score 30 Runs in Southeastern Series

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 16-16 overall, 11-13 in conference play after hosting the Rams of Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Saturday, April 13th and Sunday, April 14th. The first meeting of the season was cancelled back in March.

 

In game one, Richard Bland won big over the Rams, 10-0. Richard Bland jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Eric Fila singled, scoring one, and Michael Duncan doubled, scoring two runs. Richard Bland added one run in the second after Fila singled. An error, and a single by Macho Santiago helped the Statesmen extend their early lead in the third. Richard Bland added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits. Jordan Ramsey hit a solo home run to center field, and Jaden Groome hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Richard Bland totaled nine hits in the game. Reece Hamilton stepped on the hill first for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none.

 

In game two, the bats were blistering as Richard Bland bested Southeastern, 10-7. Richard Bland got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Samuel Young singled, scoring one run, and Jaden Groome tripled, scoring three runs. The Rams scored one run in the top of the second on a solo home run to left field. They tied the game in the top of the fourth on a single and a fielder's choice. Richard Bland took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Jordan Ramsey hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, to give the Statesmen a 5-4 lead. Richard Bland scored five runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ramsey drew a walk, scoring one run, Keegan Mahoney drew a walk, scoring one run, Duncan hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Young singled, scoring two runs. Charlie Rohr started on the mound for the Statesmen. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and four runs over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one. Jackson Hulcher pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and three runs while striking out four and walking none.

 

In game three, Macho Santiago hit three home runs and drove in five, but Richard Bland fell to the Rams, 10-18 on Sunday. Santiago homered in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings. Despite the loss, Richard Bland collected 15 hits in the high-scoring affair. The Rams got on the board in the top of the first on a double and a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Eric Fila doubled, helping Richard Bland tie the game at two in the bottom of the second. A solo home run by Santiago gave the Statesmen the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth. The Statesmen scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Michael Duncan doubled, scoring one run, Reece Hamilton doubled, scoring two runs, and Santiago homered to right field, scoring three runs. Matthew Boyd stepped on the hill first for Richard Bland. The righty surrendered seven hits and four runs over four and two0thirds innings, striking out three and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 17th at 3pm.
