Baseball Shows Strong Offense in Loss to Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 17-20 overall, 12-17 in conference play after hosting the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA) for a single, nine-inning game Wednesday afternoon.

 

Richard Bland College's bats were strong against the Bobcats this afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Statesmen fell 8-13. Bryant & Stratton collected 12 hits, while Richard Bland had nine. Macho Santiago collected three hits in four at bats in the loss. Santiago hit a solo home run to right field in the ninth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the sixth inning. Bryant & Stratton got on the board in the second inning after the Bobcats homered to center field, scoring three runs. Richard Bland tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a single by Jaden Groome, a single by Reece Hamilton, and a sacrifice bunt by Maddaux Childress. In the top of the fifth, he Bobcats broke up the tie on a double that scored one run, then a single followed to extend the lead to 3-6. Richard Bland tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a walk by Michael Duncan, a passed ball, and a single by Groome. The Bobcats captured the lead for good in the sixth inning. The Statesmen scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run to left field by Childress.

 

Jackson Hulcher started the game for Richard Bland. Hulcher surrendered six hits and six runs over five innings, striking out none and walking two.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Brunswick Community College in the three-game conference series beginning with games one and two on Saturday, April 27th in a 12pm doubleheader. Game three is set for Sunday, April 28th at 12pm.
