Baseball Celebrates Sophomore Day against Dolphins

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 18-22 overall, 12-17 in conference play after hosting the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA) for a single, nine-inning game Wednesday afternoon.

 

Prior to game three, the Richard Bland College baseball team recognized their 17 sophomores for their efforts and dedication to the program during their time in the green and white; Matthew Caldwell, Reece Hamilton, Charlie Rohr, Carter Jones, Matthew Boyd, Connor Sakamoto, Maddaux Childress, Ben Adams, Ashur Caraher, Jacob Challberg, Ryan Martin, Christion Grzyb, Darren Osborne, Mitchell Gaskins, Andrew Bottari, Landon Scott, and Alex Chini.

 

In game one, Richard Bland topped Brunswick Community College 4-3. Michael Duncan homered to left field, which helped Richard Bland tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. A home run to right field by Keegan Mahone gave Richard Bland the 3-2 lead, in the bottom of the sixth. Maddaux Childress led the team with two hits in four at-bats. Richard Bland turned one double play in the game. Reece Hamilton opened the game for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher gave up nine hits and three runs over nine innings, striking out five and walking four.

 

In game two, the Dolphins defeated the Statesmen 2-18, thanks in part to 10 runs in the fifth inning. Brunswick opened up the scoring in the first inning when a singled scored one run. They extended the lead to two in the top of the second. Jordan Ramsey homered to left field on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, which helped Richard Bland tie the game at two in the bottom of the second. Ramsey provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Statesmen with two runs batted in. Charlie Rohr stepped on the mound first for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher gave up six hits and six runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one.

 

In game three, the Dolphins defeated the Statesmen 1-11, thanks in part to eight runs in the third inning. Brunswick jumped out to the lead in the top of the third inning after three singles and three walks. Charlie Rohr went 1-fpr-2 at the plate as he led the team with one run batted in. Reece Hamilton led the Statesmen with two hits in three at bats. Andrew Bottari opened the game for the Statesmen. Bottari gave up five hits and six runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Tuesday, April 30th at 2pm, for their final game of the season.
