Baseball Earns Two Conference Victories Over Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team traveled to Fayetteville Technical Community College over the weekend for a three-game conference series at JP Riddle Stadium. After completion of the games, the Statesmen moved to 11-7 overall, 5-6 in conference play after dropping game one 5-9, and picking up game two and game three wins, 12-3 and 18-6.
In game one, strong hitting was not enough as Richard Bland fell to the Trojans. The Statesmen fell 5-9 despite out-hitting the Trojans, 14-6. Jordan Ramsey led Richard Bland with three hits. Richard Bland got on the board in the first inning after Keegan Mahoney hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. The Trojans ground out in the bottom of the first, which helped them tie the game at one. Fayetteville Tech jumped in the lead in the bottom of the second inning after stealing home, a single to right field, and a single to center field, each scoring one run. The Trojans added one run in the third. The Statesmen added two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth, and one in the eighth. Macho Santiago went 2-for-5 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Carson Herod, Michael Duncan, and Myles Holmes each collected multiple hits for Richard Bland. Holmes also stole three bases in the game. Jack Rucker took the loss for Richard Bland. The starting pitcher went six innings, allowing five runs on five hits, striking out six and walking five.
In game two, Richard Bland took over, defeating the Trojans 12-3 in a home run derby Saturday afternoon. Richard Bland opened the scoring in the first after Keegan Mahoney homered to left field, scoring three runs. The Statesmen scored one run in the top of the third on a solo home run to left field by Myles Holmes, and the Statesmen scored two runs in the top of the sixth on a home run to left field by Jordan Ramsey. Michael Duncan homered to left, scoring two runs in the top of the eighth for the Statesmen. Jackson Hulcher earned the win for Richard Bland. The hurler allowed seven hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Charlie Hogan collected the save. Holmes went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Richard Bland in hits.
In game three, Myles Holmes had a big day, propelling the Statesmen past the Trojans, 18-6. Holmes collected three hits in five at bats, hitting a home run to center field in the fourth inning, singling in the fifth inning, and doubling in the seventh inning. Fayetteville Tech opened the scoring in the first on a solo home run. Richard Bland jumped into the lead in the top of the second when Hunter Jesse singled, scoring two runs, Macho Santiago hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Carson Herod drew a walk, scoring one run. The Statesmen scored two runs in the top of the fourth on Holmes' home run to center field. Richard Bland scored six runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Santiago tripled scoring three runs, Holmes singled scoring one run, Herod singled scoring one run, and Michael Duncan drew a walk, scoring one run. The Statesmen added six more runs in the top of the seventh on five hits. Nate Riggs earned the win for Richard Bland. The pitcher gave up three hits and two runs over two innings, striking out none and walking one. Ryan Paul pitched one inning of zero-run ball in relief. The pitcher allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one.
The Richard Bland College Baseball team next hosts the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, March 11th in a single, nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 1pm.
