Statesmen Drop Series to Brunswick Dolphins

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team hosted the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College Friday and Saturday afternoons for a three-game conference series. After completion of the games, the Statesmen moved to 12-10 overall, 5-9 in conference play after dropping the games 2-7, 5-10, and 2-8.

 

In game one, Brunswick Community College opened the scoring in the first inning after a single scored one run. A line out extended the Dolphins' lead to 0-3 in the top of the third inning. Richard Bland scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to left field by Myles Holmes. Brunswick scored three runs in the top of the eighth, which solidified the win. Arthur Garnett, Michael Duncan, Jordan Ramsey, Samuel Young, and Holmes each collected one hit for the Statesmen. Keegan Mahoney took the loss for Richard Bland. The hurler went four innings, surrendering three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.

 

In game two, Macho Santiago collected three hits in five at bats, but Richard Bland fell 5-10. Santiago singled in the first inning, doubled in the second inning, and doubled in the ninth inning for the Statesmen. Richard Bland got on the board in the bottom of the first after Keegan Mahoney doubled down the right field line, and Arthur Garnett grounded out, each scoring one run. Richard Bland added one run in the second, on Santiago's double, making the score 3-0. Brunswick tied the game in the top of the third, thanks to three singles. The Dolphins broke up the tie in the fourth, then extended the lead 3-6. Richard Bland added one run in the eighth and one run in the ninth innings but it was not enough. Jackson Hulcher took the loss for Richard Bland. The pitcher went three and one-third innings, giving up six runs on nine hits, striking out six and walking three.

 

In game three, Richard Bland had trouble keeping up with the Dolphins in a 2-8 loss. The Dolphins got on the board in the top of the second inning after a home run and a sacrifice fly each scored one run. The Dolphins scored three more runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and homered in the top of the seventh, which scored two runs to hold on for the win. Austin McGraw and Myles Holmes each collected two hits for Richard Bland. The also drove in one run each. Jack Rucker took the loss for the Statesmen. The pitcher went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College Baseball team next travels to Louisburg College on Friday, March 21st for a nonconference doubleheader starting at 2pm. The Statesmen will then host the Hurricanes on Saturday, March 22nd at 1pm.
