Baseball Falls Short in 12-Inning Thriller Against Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team traveled to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Wednesday afternoon for a single game with the Bobcats. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 12-14 overall, 5-10 in conference play after dropping the game 12-13 in 12 innings.
In the game, Richard Bland fell to the Bobcats in walk-off fashion. The game was tied at 12 in the bottom of the twelfth when the Bobcats doubled, scoring the game-winning run. Richard Bland collected 13 hits and Bryant & Stratton 10, in the high-scoring affair. The Statesmen were the first to get on the board in the second when an error scored one run. Richard Bland added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Connor Powell hit a sacrifice fly, and Sam Gupta singled, each scoring one run. The Bobcats tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an error, a fielder's choice, and a sacrifice fly. The Statesmen captured the lead, 8-4 in the top of the sixth when Jordan Ramsey singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Powell doubled, scoring one run. Richard Bland added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning on three hits. Carson Herod homered to right field, scoring two runs, and Ramsey singled, scoring one run. The Bobcats scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh. Richard Bland committed an error in the bottom of the ninth to allow the Bobcats to tie the game at 11. The Statesmen regained the lead in the top of the eleventh, but a home run by the Bobcats helped tie the game at 12 in the bottom of the inning. Jack Rucker stepped on the hill first for Richard Bland. The pitcher allowed two hits and four runs over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Luke Sweeney, Charlie Hogan, Marco Cafaro, and Nate Riggs each came on in relief for the Statesmen.
The Richard Bland College Baseball team next travels to Camp Community College on Thursday, March 27th for a non-conference game at 2pm.
