Baseball Picks Up Non-Conference Win Over Hawks

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team hosted the College of Southern Maryland Tuesday afternoon in a rescheduled, non-conference game at Petersburg Sports Complex. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 16-15 overall, 7-11 in conference play after defeating the Hawks of the College of Southern Maryland 9-4.

 

In the game, the College of Southern Maryland opened the scoring in the second inning after an error scored one run. Keegan Mahoney grounded out, which helped Richard Bland tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. Richard Bland flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Seth Truesdale that drove in two. Carson Herod led Richard Bland with two hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Miguel Martin led the Statesmen with two walks. Herod, Martin, and Macho Santiago each stole multiple bases for Richard Bland. Elijah Clarke started the game for the Statesmen. The pitcher surrendered one hit and one run over four innings, striking out two and walking six. Marco Cafaro threw two innings of scoreless ball in relief. The righty allowed one hit, striking out two and walking none. Brady Page earned the win for Richard Bland. The hurler gave up one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out none and walking none.

 

The Richard Bland College Baseball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) for a midweek, nine-inning conference game with the Bobcats. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
