MEN'S BASKETBALL RELEASE 2013-14 SEASON SCHEDULE

Petersburg, VA, September 13, 2013- The Richard Bland College and surrounding areas will get to see the Statesmen compete against some of the nations top programs this season. Statesman Hall located on the campus of Richard Bland College will be filled with students and the community as they support the team in their first season since the 1993-94 season, the school's final season of intercollegiate competition.

This season is filled with excitement as the 2013-14 Statesmen will compete against a tough non-conference schedule. Richard Bland will open the season on November 2, 2013 at 5 p.m. hosting the College of Southern Maryland Hawks as their home opener. The Statesmen then travel to Wilmington, NC to play in the Cape Fear Classic  November 8th & 9th, 2013, taking on two NJCAA Division I foes, the tip for the first night is at 7 p.m. against the host Cape Fear Community College, with Brunswick Community College at 1 p.m. to close out the trip on Saturday, November 9, 2013.

Richard Bland comes home for three games, Guilford Technical Community College comes to town on November 16th for a 3 p.m. tip, followed by a game with the Vanguards of Vance-Granville Community College on November 20th at 6 p.m. In the third game,  the Statesmen will host provisional conference member Bryant & Stratton College on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. The Statesmen will then host the Mark Bryan Benefit Tournament, paying homage to the late and former athletic director Mark Bryan. The tournament will take place at Statesman Hall on November 23-24, 2013. The first game will feature Montgomery College (MD) vs. Southside Virginia Community College contest at 3 p.m., with the Statesmen hosting the Wildcats of Wytheville Community College at 5p.m. The second day of the tournament games will pair the two losing teams to play at 1 p.m. followed by the championship game between the two winning teams at 3 p.m.

Richard Bland will host the Bulldogs of Pitt Community College on December 4th at 6pm, then play on the road December 7th at Catawba Valley Community College at 3 p.m. in Hickory, NC. On December 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. the Statesmen host Potomac State College of West Virginia, then travel to Tidewater Community College for a 3 p.m. game at Oscar Smith High School for a regional match-up and closing out on the road at Wytheville Community College for a 3 p.m. game on December 18th. The Statesmen will host the very next day, Spartanburg Methodist College who was ranked #1 for the entire season, last year in the NJCAA Division I polls, the December 19th game is set to tipoff at 5 p.m.

The second part of the schedule will open against Fishburne Military Academy on January 11, 2014 at 12 p.m., the game will be played at Virginia Wesleyan College. On January 12, 2014, Northern Virginia Community College will visit for a 3 p.m. contest against the Statesmen. Regional rival Patrick Henry Community College will visit the Statesmen on January 15th for a 6 p.m. start. The Statesmen will host Louisburg College who was also ranked #1 for the entire polling season last year in NJCAA Division II, on January 22nd at 6 p.m. at Statesman Hall. The Statesmen then travel to compete in four regional matchups starting with Pitt Community College on January 25, 2014 at 3 p.m., Lenoir Community College the following day at 3 p.m., Wake Technical Community College will host the Statesmen for a 5 p.m. start on January 29th, followed by the fourth road game at Guilford Technical Community College on February 1st at 4 p.m.

The Statesmen will host Frederick Community College from Maryland in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. on February 4, 2014. The Statesmen travel for another regional contest against Vance-Granville Community College on February 5, 2014 at 7 p.m. Then hosting back-to-back conference games with Lenoir Community College visiting on February 12th for a 6 p.m. tip-off, and Catawba Valley Community College coming to town on February 15th for a 3 p.m. start. The Statesmen travel for another cross state showdown against the Patriots of Patrick Henry Community College February 19th at 6 p.m., and hosting Wake Technical Community College on February 22nd at 3 p.m. The Storm of Tidewater Community College will come to Statesman Hall on February 26, 2014 for a 6 p.m. game and the Statesmen close out the regular season against the Hurricanes of Louisburg College on the road March 1, 2013  at 3 p.m.

The 2013-14 NJCAA Region X Division II Conference Tournament will be hosted by Catawba Community College in Hickory, NC during the week of March 6-10, 2014.
