STATESMEN SINK DOLPHINS EN ROUTE TO THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Wilmington, NC, November 9, 2013- Both Richard Bland College and Brunswick Community College came into the game missing several key contributors which proved to be a test for each squad. The Brunswick Dolphins however had their three main scorers on hand which kept the contest interesting. The Statesmen sunk enough free throws down the stretch to defeat the NJCAA Division I program from Supply, NC 89-81.

The Dolphins kept things interesting after closing the double digit first half lead to only five at halftime as the Statesmen led 41-36. In the second half, the Statesmen jumped out to a 19 point lead midway through the second half, in which the Dolphins were able to close the lead with their press attack. The Statesmen handled the press and closed out the game.

The Statesmen were led in scoring by Micah Thomas' 19 points and three assists, Avery Ugba recorded his second straight double-double with a 16 point 17 rebound effort. Jareese Cooley had 13 points including a monstrous dunk in the first half that ignited a run by the Statesmen and Tavon Mealy added 12 points to go along with nine rebounds. The Dolphins were led by Cam Jones, who led all scorers with 26 points. The Statesmen end the weekend at 3-0 while the Dolphins suffer their first loss of the season.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 against the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College from Virginia Beach, VA. The tip off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
