THOMAS SECOND STATESMEN TO RECEIVE NJCAA DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

PETERSBURG, VA, January 8, 2014- Micah Thomas has been named the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week , making the second Statesmen to be tabbed for the honor in recent weeks. Thomas' teammate Tavon Mealy was first to nab the award several weeks ago. The sharp shooting guard has been torching the nets this season connecting on 47-91 three point field goal attempts, while standing at 17th nationally for a 51.6% from beyond the stripe.

In addition, Thomas leads the Statesmen in scoring at 19.9 points per outing. The week he claimed the honor he scored 50 points in two games 29 (vs. Wytheville CC) and 21 (vs. Spartanburg Methodist College). In the game against Spartanburg Methodist he nailed all of his points from three point land hitting seven of 13 bombs. The game versus Wytheville he dialed in on four of 11 from long distance, bringing his total for the week 11 of 24 from downtown.

The Statesmen are back in action on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 12:00 pm versus Fishburne Military School on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College.
