#19 STATESMEN TAKE DOWN NORTHERN VIRGINIA TO WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT

PETERSBURG, VA, January 12, 2014-The Northern Virginia Community College Raiders came into Statesman Hall looking to take down the #19 ranked Statesmen. The Raiders lead for the first seven and a half minutes of the first half, before Richard Bland took the lead with five minutes remaining before halftime and eventually pulled out a 101-80 victory for their sixth straight win.

The Statesmen were led by Tavon Mealy who scored 26 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, Micah Thomas tossed in 13, Trayvonte Brown, Brian Adkins, and Melvin Gregory each scored 12 and Gregory climbed the boards 11 times to get his second straight double-double. The Raiders were led by  Mortimer Berchie with 26 and Khalil Jabbie scored 21 points for the visitors.

The Statesmen are back in action against Region X foe Patrick Henry Community College on Wednesday, January 15th at 6:00 pm. The Statesmen record stands at 13-1.
