FORMER VCU RAM WIL FAMENI IS FEATURED GUEST SPEAKER FOR FCA EVENT

PETERSBURG, VA, January 27, 2014- Wil Fameni began his lifelong journey as a christian which began before he came to the United States in 2001. The native of Cameroon first loved soccer and at the age of 13, began playing basketball when he was introduced to the sport by his childhood friend in Cameroon. At the age of 17, Fameni traveled to America with his belongings and a duffle bag full of basketball skills potential with him.

After arriving in Norfolk, Va as a foreign exchange student, Fameni stated that his experience at his first stop was not a positive one. "I only ate twice a week and slept in the school's locker room", said Fameni. For Fameni, getting out of that situation was as simple as scoring 40 points in a high school game and the word got out about the kid from Cameroon, and so did he. Wil landed at Amelia Academy and played for Statesmen Head Coach Chuck Moore, and the rest is history.

After starring at Amelia, he accepted a scholarship at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Fameni played for the Sun Devils for two seasons, where he was a member of the Pac-10 All-Academic team. Wil transferred back to the Richmond area to join Coach Anthony Grant and the VCU Rams. Wil graduated from the School of Business with a master's degree in Accounting, not bad for someone who only spoke French five years earlier, and picked up the english language in three months after arriving to the states.

Fameni gave his testimony and experience with athletics and all the obstacles he has faced and overcome. The person he is proves that being patient and having strong faith, integrity and character will earn your place in life. Currently, Wil Fameni is a manager for MeadWestvaco Corporation where he travels to various countries to develop other markets for the company. Wil provided the student-athletes a great story of his life and how he became a christian and managed to balance his life with athletics, faith, and family.
