#1 STATESMEN SPOIL EAGLES RALLY TO CONTINUE WINNING STREAK

RALEIGH, NC, January 31, 2014- Richard Bland (20-1) visited Wake Tech Community College (13-9) and they found themselves in a game late in the second half, but pulled it out to claim the victory 77-70.

The Statesmen struggled midway through the game to the home team, holding a narrow lead going into the intermission by three, 34-31. Wake Tech exploded in the first few possessions to take the lead 37-34. The game was tied until back-to-back three point baskets by Micah Thomas and Evan Bates put the visitors up by six, 47-41. The Statesmen were led by Micah Thomas who had 16 points, Tavon Mealy added 12 points and grabbed down 10 boards for a double-double performance, while Melvin Gregory tossed in 12 points. The Eagles were led by Josh Mellette with 18 and Lamont White with 13 points.

The Statesmen are on the road again tomorrow Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC, the tip-off is at 4:00 pm.
