No. 6 Richard Bland Hosting Fayetteville Tech (N.C.) Monday Night

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will host first-year Region X Conference member Fayetteville Technical (N.C.) Community College in men's basketball on Monday night, January 16 at 7 p.m. in Statesman Hall.  The nationally-ranked Statesmen, tied for No. 6 in the most recent NJCAA Division II Top 20 Poll, feature an overall record of 13-3, including 6-1 in Region X.  The Trojans were 4-13 overall, 1-6 in Region X prior to a scheduled game at Bryant and Stratton College today (Sunday, Jan. 16).

The Monday night contest being played on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was rescheduled from Jan. 7, due to the effects of Winter Storm Helena.  Admission is free to all Richard Bland home games, and the contest can be heard locally on WHAP Radio, Fox Sports 1340 AM.

Scouting the Statesmen
No. 6 Richard Bland is 13-3 overall after a 71-66 road setback at Region X rival Louisburg (N.C.) College on Jan. 14.  The Statesmen, who are an outstanding 87-28 (.757) over the past three-plus seasons, are coached by head coach Chuck Moore, who is in his fourth season, and assisted by fourth-year assistant coach Brian Henderson, second-year assistant coach Preston Beverly and first-year graduate assistant coach Mike Wynn

Through 16 games, Richard Bland has been led in scoring by 6-4 sophomore guard Deandre Clark/Orange, who is averaging 12.1 points (40 3FGs), 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists.  He is followed closely by local 6-3 sophomore guard Gevon Arrington/Petersburg, who is averaging 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists, while 6-9 sophomore center Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina is averaging 11.5 points (66.7 FG%), 9.3 rebounds and 3.1 blocks with seven double-doubles.  Richard Bland is averaging 82.0 points per game, while allowing just 67.7 points to opponents for a scoring margin of +14.3.

Scouting Fayetteville Tech
Fayetteville Tech was 4-13 overall, 1-6 in Region X prior to its Sunday game at Bryant and Stratton, and coached by head coach Brian Hurd.  The Trojans are playing their first season of men's basketball since the school eliminated the program in 1974, and not eligible for post-season this year.  FTCC averages 85.7 points per game, but yields 97.7 points following their most recent contest … an 88-80 home loss to Wake Technical (N.C.) Community College on Jan. 12.  The Trojans have been led in scoring by sophomore Kenny Walters (16.6), along with freshmen Kei'Juan Major (14.2) and Tristen Rodriguez (12.9).
