No. 8 Richard Bland Visits Bryant & Stratton On Sunday
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will play on the road at Region X Conference member Bryant & Stratton College in men's basketball on Sunday afternoon, January 22 at 3 p.m. in Norfolk. The nationally-ranked Statesmen, No. 8 in this week's NJCAA Division II Top 20 Poll, feature an overall record of 15-3, including 8-1 in Region X, with 11 wins in their last 12 games played. The host Bobcats were 12-7 overall, 8-3 in Region X, prior to a home game against Louisburg College on Saturday (January 21).

Scouting the Statesmen
No. 8 Richard Bland is 15-3 overall after a hard-fought 87-83 home win past Pitt (N.C.) Community College on Jan. 19. The Statesmen, who are an outstanding 89-28 (.761) over the past four seasons, are coached by head coach Chuck Moore, who is in his fourth season, and assisted by fourth-year assistant coach Brian Henderson, second-year assistant coach Preston Beverly and first-year graduate assistant coach Mike Wynn.
Through 18 games, Richard Bland has been led in scoring by local 6-3 sophomore guard Gevon Arrington/Petersburg, who is averaging 12.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He is followed by 6-4 sophomore guard Deandre Clark/Orange, who is averaging 12.1 points (46 3FGs), 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists, while 6-9 sophomore center Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina is averaging 11.6 points (66 FG%), 9.3 rebounds and 3.2 blocks with eight double-doubles. Richard Bland is averaging 82.8 points per game, while allowing just 68.5 points to opponents for a scoring margin of +14.3.

Bryant & Stratton was 12-7 overall (prior to Saturday's game) after a 78-68 home win past Fayetteville Technical (N.C.) Community College on Jan. 15, and is coached by Cliff Coleman. The Bobcats have three players averaging double-figure points, including freshmen Jordan Forbes (18.6) and Gerrard Simpkins (13.4), along with sophomore Alondo Jackson (10.4). Bryant & Stratton averages 82.7 points, while allowing 81.3 points to opponents for a scoring margin of +1.4.
Series History
Richard Bland and Bryant & Stratton are playing for the sixth time in the sport of men's basketball, and the Bobcats lead the series at 3-2, including three wins in the last four games played between the two schools. Bryant & Stratton won both games last season by scores of 76-52 in Norfolk (2/7/16) and 87-80 at Statesman Hall (2/23/16).
Homecoming of Sorts
Richard Bland sophomore Harrison Mitchell/Hampton (Phoebus), along with freshmen Robert Smith/Hampton (Phoebus) and Travius Smith/Norfolk (Lake Taylor), will be playing "close to home" at Bryant & Stratton. The Statesmen trio look forward to playing in front of family and friends against the Bobcats.
