Richard Bland Names Gevon Arrington Athlete of the Week (Again)

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College local sophomore men's basketball standout guard Gevon Arrington/Petersburg has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period February 1-7.  He led the Statesmen to a 2-0 week with his all-around averages of 11.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals.  This is the second time that Arrington has been selected for the weekly honor, as he previously garnered the award for the period December 7-13, 2016.  He is only the second Statesmen to be named Athlete of the Week two times this year. 

Arrington scored a game-high 16 points, including two three-point field goals, while making 6-7 free throws and adding nine rebounds, four assists and two steals during a 76-62 road win at Catawba Valley (N.C.) Community College on Feb. 4, and had six points, a game-high eight rebounds, four assists and two steals during a 71-48 home win past Lenoir (N.C.) Community College on Feb. 1.  Through 23 games, Arrington is second in scoring for Richard Bland (20-3, 13-1), ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Division II Top 20 Poll, with his 12.3 points, adding 5.0 rebounds (second on team), 2.4 assists (third on team) and 1.2 steals (third on team), along with 30 three-pointers (second on team).

Arrington has received interest from NCAA Division II members Lincoln (Pa.) University, the University of Mount Olive (N.C.) and Salem International (W.Va.) University, among others.
