No. 12 Richard Bland Welcomes No. 15 Louisburg (N.C.)

The latest winter storm has forced postponement of this NJCAA Division II, Region 10 men's basketball game until Thursday, January 18, at 5:30 p.m. in Statesman Hall.

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- No. 12 Richard Bland College will host archrival and No. 15 Louisburg (N.C.) College in a Region 10 men's basketball game on Wednesday night, January 17, at 7 p.m. in Statesman Hall.  The nationally-ranked Statesmen are 11-4 overall, including 5-2 in Region 10, while a perfect 5-0 at home this season.  The nationally-ranked Hurricanes are 12-3 overall, including 6-0 in Region 10. 

It's Homecoming Week at the College and admission is free to all Richard Bland home games, while the contest can be heard locally on WHAP Radio, Fox Sports 1340 AM.

Looking at the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 11-4 overall, 5-2 in Region 10, while ranked No. 12 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll.  The Statesmen are an outstanding 115-35 (.767) over the past five seasons, including an even more impressive 56-8 (.875%) at home since 2013-14.  Richard Bland is coached by fifth-year head coach Chuck Moore (163-51 overall), and assisted by third-year assistant coach Preston Beverly and first-year assistant coach Anthony Sally.

Through 15 games, Richard Bland has been led in scoring by 6-4 sophomore guard Robert Smith/Hampton, who is averaging 17.8 points and 5.7 rebounds.  He is followed by 6-2 sophomore guard Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland (12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists), local 6-7 sophomore forward Stanley Taylor/Petersburg (9.3 points, 8.3 rebounds) and 6-3 sophomore guard Tre' Patterson/Richmond (9.1 points, 3.8 rebounds).

Looking at the Hurricanes
Louisburg is 12-3 overall, 6-0 in Region 10, while ranked No. 15 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll.  The Hurricanes are coached by third-year head coach Neil Dixon, and are led in scoring by 6-5 sophomore forward Jordan Oakley, who is averaging 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds.  He is followed by 6-5 sophomore guard/forward Lewis Freeman (13.6 points, 4.2 rebounds) and 6-3 sophomore guard Jalen Gaddy (13.3 points, 3.7 rebounds). 

Series History
Richard Bland and Louisburg are playing for the 11th time in the sport of men's basketball, and the Hurricanes lead the closely-played rivalry series at 6-4.  The Statesmen, however, did win the most recent meeting last season with a 78-75 overtime victory to claim the Region 10 Tournament Championship last March 11.  The title triumph avenged a pair of regular-season setbacks to Louisburg a year ago, including 71-66 in the first meeting on Jan. 14, 2017 in North Carolina and 78-71 in the second meeting on February 8, 2017 in Statesman Hall.
