Richard Bland Falls In Overtime At Patrick Henry 85-82

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Sophomore Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland scored a team-high 15 points, but Richard Bland College dropped an 85-82 Region 10 men's basketball overtime decision at in-state rival Patrick Henry Community College on Wednesday night in Martinsville.  Classmate Robert Smith/Hampton and freshman Kenny Southerland/Richmond each added 12 points for the visiting Statesmen (17-7, 11-5) against the host Patriots (11-11, 9-7). 

Richard Bland led 32-31 at halftime before Patrick Henry outscored the Statesmen 41-40 in the second half to force overtime tied at 72-72.  Unfortunately, the Patriots had a 13-10 advantage during the extra five minutes for their home win.  

Bing led Richard Bland with his 15 points, adding four assists and two steals.  Smith and Southerland each had 12 points.  Sophomore Ricky Hicks/Bronx, New York finished with 11 points, adding seven assists, and classmate Deon Joyner/North Charleston, South Carolina had 10 points and eight rebounds.  Sophomore Stanley Taylor/Petersburg contributed nine points and four rebounds, while freshman Marvin Trotman/Virginia Beach added seven points.

Richard Bland and Patrick Henry were playing for the 12th time, and the Statesmen continue to lead the in-state rivalry series at 7-5.

Richard Bland will remain on the road to play at Region 10 member Wake Tech (N.C.) on Saturday, February 17, at 4 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.
