Richard Bland Runs Past Visiting Fayetteville Tech (N.C.) 114-95

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Sophomore Tre' Patterson/Richmond scored a career-high 21 points off the bench to lead Richard Bland College to a 114-95 Region 10 men's basketball victory past Fayetteville Tech (N.C.) on Friday night in Statesman Hall.  Sophomores Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland and Robert Smith/Hampton each added 17 points for the host Statesmen (19-8, 13-6), who led 62-37 at halftime.  Nicolas Kuhns led the visiting Trojans (14-11, 10-9) with a game-high 25 points.

Richard Bland used an early 19-4 run to take a 22-9 lead at 13:18 following a steal and slam dunk by Patterson and a layup from freshman Ryan Jones/Smithfield, assisted by Patterson.  The Statesmen led 33-13 at 9:40 after a layup by Smith, and the lead was 44-21 at 5:56 following a three-point field goal from freshman Marvin Trotman/Virginia Beach.  Patterson's coast-to-coast layup at 2:09 had the hosts ahead 57-33, and the advantage was 62-37 at the intermission when Trotman made two free throws inside the final minute.

Richard Bland extended the lead to 67-40 early in the second half at 18:50 after a three-pointer by Bing.  The Statesmen led 81-52 at 14:03 following a layup from sophomore Deon Joyner/North Charleston, South Carolina, and the advantage was 90-62 at 11:34 when Trotman scored on a layup, assisted by Jones.  The hosts still led 100-80 at 6:15 after 1-2 free throws by Patterson, but Fayetteville Tech scored eight unanswered points to get within 100-88 with 4:31 remaining.  Richard Bland responded with a quick 7-3 run to lead 107-91 at 1:59, while outscoring the Trojans 14-7 for the final 19-point margin of victory.

Patterson led Richard Bland with his career-high 21 points, adding six rebounds, three steals and three blocks.  Bing and Smith each finished with their respective 17 points, and Smith added five rebounds and four assists, as well.  Jones contributed 15 points and six assists, while Joyner added a career-high 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.  Trotman had 12 points, freshman Kenny Southerland/Richmond added seven points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Ricky Hicks/Bronx. New York had seven assists and four points.  Richard Bland shot 55% (43-78) from the field, including 58% (11-19) on three-pointers, and 68% (17-25) at the free throw line.

Kuhns led Fayetteville Tech with his game-high 25 points.  Jonathan Adams finished with 20 points, while Alex Mims had 10 points.

Richard Bland and Fayetteville Tech were playing for just the third time, and the Statesmen now lead the series at 2-1.  Richard Bland was able to avenge a 98-86 road setback at Fayetteville Tech on December 13.

Richard Bland will remain at home to complete the regular season against Vance-Granville (N.C.) on Sunday, February 25, at 3 p.m.  It'll be Sophomore Day as the Statesmen will recognize their eight sophomores during a special pregame ceremony, including Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland, Ricky Hicks/Bronx, New York, Tre' Patterson/Richmond, Robert Smith/Hampton, Stanley Taylor/Petersburg, Deon Joyner/North Charleston, South Carolina, Miodrag Dronjak/Kladovo, Serbia and Brandon Henry/Chester.
