Statesmen Upend Carolina Basketball Academy, 89-58

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- The Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's basketball team defeated the Carolina Basketball Academy 89-58 yesterday afternoon at Statesman Hall.

With the victory, the Statesmen improve to 4-7 and will next travel to USC Salkehatchie on Tuesday, January 8 for a 7 pm tipoff.

The Statesmen started out hot on Friday afternoon, scoring the first 11 points to start the game before the Tigers of CBA answered with a three-point shot of their own. The Tigers continued to fight through the first half but early foul trouble made them cautious on the defensive end. Richard Bland led at the half 39-31.

There were a lot of missed opportunities for the Statesmen in the first half. The second half brought a new energy for Richard Bland. Forced turnovers lead to 13 points for the Statesmen. Quick plays in transition helped give the Statesmen a comfortable lead over the Tigers in the second half. The Statesmen's effort proved too much for the short-handed Tigers. Freshman Jalen Spicer and sophomore Wayne Clevert lead the Statesmen with 15 points each.
