Statesmen Defeat Monroe College at Brunswick Classic

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Men's Basketball team moves to 5-7 overall after they traveled to the Brunswick Community College Classic this past weekend.

In the opening game of the tournament, Richard Bland took on East Georgia State College. East Georgia State had the 42-34 lead at the half and continued to push past the Statesmen by the end of regulation. Lance Monterio led the scoring with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Kelby Saunders Jr. had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Kevon West and Deston Davenport had 10 points each.

In their second game of the tournament, Richard Bland faced Monroe College, and played to a come from behind, double overtime victory. Trailing at the half, the Statesmen went on to defeat Monroe 76-72. Isaiah Richardson led the Statesmen with 22 points in 46 minutes of play. Lance Monterio was credited with his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Wood had his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelby Saunders Jr. scored his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

In their final game of the tournament, Richard Bland took on nationally ranked, Harcum College. Harcum leading 33-20 at the half, went on to best the Statesmen 76-44. Lance Monterio led had 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Statesmen, while Daquan Johnson had 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Richard Bland men's basketball has a short break for the holidays before they host Louisburg College in a nonconference game in the new year, on Thursday January 6^th at 6pm.
