SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Men's Basketball team moves to 4-5 in conference play, 9-12 overall after they hosted conference foe, Cape Fear Community College Wednesday evening.
The Statesmen held a small lead, 38-34 at the half and the game would be forced into overtime after a 71-71 tie at the end of regulation. Richard Bland went on to outscore Cape Fear by 1 point in overtime, to split the series.
With a buzzer beater floater in overtime by Andre Hayes, the Statesmen sealed the victory over the Sea Devils. Eric Wood led offensively with 19 points and garnered 5 rebounds. Kevon West added 17 points off the bench. Nathaniel Lacey and Kelby Saunders Jr. were both credited with double-doubles respectively with 15 points and 17 boards, and 14 points and 11 boards. Lacey also tallied 4 blocks. Lance Monteiro posted 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Richard Bland men's basketball next travels to Hudson, NC for the second meeting of the series with Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute this evening, Friday February 4th at 6pm.
