Cobras Down Statesmen in Men’s Basketball Action

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team moves to 6-9 overall, 2-2 in conference after hosting the Cobras of Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Saturday afternoon.

Saturday afternoon, the Statesmen dropped a tough, 97-71 battle to the Cobras. Richard Bland trailed by nine, 30-39 at the break, and would be outscored 41-58 in the second half, to fall to the Cobras in their first outting of the new year.

Martin Kawa led the way with 21 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Ibrahim Kourouma tallied 12 points and five assists, while Rodney Willis Jr. was credited with nine points, seven rebounds, and one block. Larry Howell and Mekhi Phipps-Dedrick added eight points each. Howell also added four rebounds and three assists, while Phipps-Dedrick tallied five assists, one rebound, and one steal. Jalen Smith chipped in with eight rebounds and six points, and Imani Anderson five points, in the loss.

Richard Bland shot 73.3% from the charity stripe, 42.4% from the field, and 31.6% from the perimeter.

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next hosts Davidson-Davie Community College on Wednesday, January 14^th in a 7pm contest.
