Region 10 DI Men's Basketball Awards
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's basketball program, finished the regular season with a record of 12-17 overall, 7-9 in conference play. After their loss to Gaston College in the final game of the regular season, the men's basketball team was named the #6 seed heading into the Region 10 Atlantic District Tournament beginning today.
Wednesday afternoon, the Region 10 Division I All-Region teams were announced. Martin Kawa is the lone Statesman who has earned 2nd Team All-Region 10 honors.
Sophomore, guard Martin Kawa has started all 29 games, for 1,095 minutes played for the Statesmen. He averages 19.1 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, 43.5 fg%, 35.8 3pt%, and 76.5 ft%. This season, Kawa has 555 total points, 149 rebounds, 95 assists, 44 steals, and eight blocks. His best outing was on February 11th against Spartaburg Methodist College, tallying 34 points. He went 11-15 from the field, 7-9 at the charity stripe, and 5-6 at the perimeter.
Kawa has scored double-digit points in all but one game this season, and has 15, 20+ point games. Kawa has tallied two double-doubles this season; against Chesapeake College and Cape Fear Community College. He is just 11 points away from scoring a career total, 1,000 points at Richard Bland through his two seasons as a Statesman.
He will be looked at to continue leading and producing as the team heads into the Region 10/Atlantic District Tournament this evening as the #6 seed. Richard Bland takes on the #3 seeded Eagles of Wake Technical Community College.
