SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team hosted the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA) (NJCAA DII) Thursday evening in a Region 10 non-conference contest. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 1-4 overall after falling to the Bobcats, 99-82.
The Bobcats took the lead and never lost it Thursday evening in Statesman Hall. Richard Bland trailed by a nine-point deficit at the break, 40-49. The Statesmen scored 42 more points in the second half, but it was not enough as the Bobcats held on for the non-conference win.
Five Statesmen scored double-digits in the loss, led by Doyle Brown and Emmanuel Vonhm with 20 points each. Vonhm also had five rebounds and one steal, and Brown three assists, two steals, and one rebound. Andy Ramirez, Jalen Smith, and Dove Fishburne each tallied 12 points for the Statesmen. Ramirez also added five rebounds, three steals, and one assist; Smith, four rebounds, four assists, and one steal; Fishburn, eight assists, six rebounds, and on steal on the night. Jermaine Coston Jr. chipped in with four points and three rebounds, and Stacy Byrd two points for the Statesmen.
Richard Bland shot 49.1% from the field, 36.4% from the perimeter, and 72.7% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next travels to Region 15 opponent, Monroe University in New Rochelle, New York on Saturday, November 23rd. Tip-off is set for 3pm.
