Turnovers Prove Costly in Men’s Basketball Overtime Loss

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team traveled to Wake Technical Community College Wednesday evening, for their second meeting of the season with the Eagles. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 5-12 overall, 3-4 in conference play after falling in overtime.

 

Wednesday evening, the Statesmen battled the Eagles in a fast-paced, back and forth game with multiple lead changes, resulting in a 30-32, two-point deficit after the first half. In the second half, the Statesmen made up for the two points, outscoring the Eagles by two, putting up 28 points, to force overtime. The Statesmen added seven points in the extra five minutes, but fell one point short, dropping the conference game 65-66 on the road.

 

Doyle Brown led the Statesmen with 18 points, five rebounds, and three steals in the game, followed closely behind by Emmanuel Vonhm with his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 boards. Jalen Smith tallied his fourth triple-double of the season with 12 rebounds, 12 assists, 11 points, one steal, and one block. Off the bench, Christian Chambers added 11 points and three rebounds, and Jermaine Coston Jr. and Andy Ramirez chipped in with three points each.

 

Richard Bland shot 45.5% from the field, 40.0% from the perimeter, and 68.0% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next hosts Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Saturday, February 8th in a 3pm contest.
