Indians Edge Statesmen in Men’s Basketball Action

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team hosted USC Salkehatchie Friday evening, for their first meeting of the season with the Indians. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 6-13 overall, 4-5 in conference play after falling to the Indians at home.
Friday evening, the game was a battle from start to finish. Richard Bland held a small, two-point edge over the Indians at the break, 45-43. USC Salkehatchie came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Statesmen 46-55, to hold on for the conference victory.
Emmanuel Vonhm led the way with 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal on the night. Jermaine Coston Jr. scored his fifth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Doyle Brown tallied 15 points, six rebounds, and one steal, while Jalen Smith chipped in with his fifth double-double of the season, two assists short of his sixth triple-double, notching 14 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. Andy Ramirez added 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist, and Richard Ago four points and three rebounds in the game.
Richard Bland shot 58.2% from the field, 14.3% from the perimeter, and 75.8% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next travels to Gaston College on Saturday, February 22nd. The game will take place at Ashbrook High School, with tip-off at 3pm.
