ALLENDALE, SC. -- The Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's soccer team shutout USC Salkehatchie, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at Salkehatchie Soccer Field.
With the victory, the Statesmen improved to 2-0 on the season, and will next travel to USC Lancaster for another road game on Saturday, September 1 at 2 pm.
The Statesmen scored a goal in the first half by sophomore Umar Mujahid who headed in a cross from Henrique Eichenberger for his second assist of the season. In the second half, freshman Gorka Delgado scored a long-range goal from outside the 18 yard box to make it a 2-0 lead. The Statesmen maintained its consecutive clean sheet of keeping their opponents scoreless, and goalie Almir Menezes was rarely tested throughout the game.
"This was a good road win for a very inexperienced group of players against a tough opponent in Salkehatchie who made it difficult for us in the 91 degrees weather," said first-year RBC head coach Damien Westfield. "Now we will turn our attention to Lancaster who is another competitive opponent."
