Men's Soccer Earns Big Victory On Sophomore Day

The Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's soccer team defeated USC Salkehatchie on sophomore day 8-0 this afternoon at Statesman Soccer Field.

With this victory, the Statesmen finished their regular season 14-2-2 and will next play in the conference tournament semifinals next Saturday on October 27.

The Statesmen opened the scoring in the 44th minute when freshman Brian Guerrero received a nicely timed pass from freshman Hector Rivera before slotting his ball past the Salkehatchie goalie. The Statesmen took a 2-0 lead seven minutes later in the 37th minute when freshman Atonio Ferreira scored off an assist from sophomore Umar Mujahid.

Guerrero scored his second goal in the 34th minute when Mujahid assisted him. A minute later, sophomore Romeo Kayizali scored an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute to make it a 4-0 lead. In the 28th minute, Kayizali completed a double when he received an assist from Mujahid before calmly slotting his shot pass the Salkehatchie goalie. Freshman Leon Boltz made it a 6-0 lead for the Statesmen when he received a through pass from freshman Miguel Thomas before shooting it pass the Salkehatchie goalie. In the second half, the Statemen's got another early goal in the 46th minute off of an assist from Guerrero. Rivera then scored the Statesmen's final goal in the 60th minute which is how the second period ended.
