Men’s Soccer Starts Season With Convincing Victory

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- The Richard Bland College of William and Mary men's soccer team started the 2019 Fall season by completely controlling the field in a 15-1 victory over Southwest Virginia Community College. 

After this season's opening win, the Statesmen move to 1-0 and are scheduled to host Patrick Henry Community College home at Willcox Field on Tuesday, August 27th, at 4 pm. 

The Statesmen came out swinging in the first half by scoring 13 goals and allowing only one throughout the entire contest. Sophomore, Gorka Delgado led the team today by scoring 6 goals, all in the first half. When asked how he felt about his performance, Delgado replied with "I scored six, but I should've scored more," explaining that there is always room for improvement in his game. Delgado's teammates Antonio Ferreira, Ganzalo Bazan, Miguel Tirado Thomas, and Waseem Abdalla also contributed to today's results. Bazan and Tirado combined for 6 goals, Abdalla scored 2, and Ferreira scored 1 while also adding in 5 assists. In the second half, the Statesmen continued to score another 2 goals. When the final whistle sounded the final result of today's match was 15-1.

Head Coach Damien Westfield said that he "felt good" about today's game and was happy to "start the season off on a positive note."
