Men's Soccer Cruises to Nine Wins

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- The Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's soccer team won 8-2 against Spartanburg Methodist at home on Saturday.

The Statesmen move to 9-1 on the season and will host Northern Virginia Community College at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1 at Willcox Field.

In the first half, Gonzalo Bazan scored the first goal with an assist from Antonio Ferreira. Three minutes later, Jack Gilbert assisted Gorka Delgado to take a 2-0 lead. Delgado would go on to score another two goals for the Statesmen. The sophomore has scored a total of eighteen goals this season. Gilbert assisted Domingos Vital's goal with eleven minutes left in the first half. The Statesmen were leading 4-0 after the halftime buzzer, but they were not finished. In the first five minutes of the second half, Bazan and Ferreira came together again to put the Statesmen ahead 5-0. After a Spartanburg goal, Vital scored with an assist from Miguel Tirado Thomas. Spartanburg Methodist was able to score another goal to make the game 6-2. Matthew Ridley and Delgado scored the final two goals to put the Statesmen on top 8-2. 

Assistant coach, Meghan Mauzy, claimed the team's "electrifying intensity and passion has allowed [them] to continue this eight game hot streak."
